Bottom line: Y&R is a five-day-a-week show at 12:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. CT on CBS, and on an ordinary week every weekday is a new hour. When it isn't there, the reason is almost always one of four things, and you can usually work out which one within a minute.

One caution: the national schedule and your screen are not the same thing. CBS can have a new episode queued while your local affiliate drops it for a city council meeting, a weather cut-in or a high school football special. If the table says new and your station says otherwise, the problem is local.

What time is Y&R on where I live?

The Eastern and Central rows are the network feed, and they hold almost everywhere. West of that it gets messy: CBS sends a separate feed, and affiliates place the show where their own morning blocks allow. Daily Drama prints 10:30 a.m. MT and 9:30 a.m. PT; plenty of western stations run it later than that, so treat those as the feed rather than your listing.

Why does Y&R get pre-empted?

Four reasons cover nearly all of it.

• Sports. CBS Sports owns the afternoon during March Madness, and golf and tennis weekends can spill into Friday. Daytime is the first thing to go.
• Breaking news. A network special report takes the slot outright. A long one can push the episode off the day entirely rather than delay it.
• Holidays. CBS parks encores on the big ones instead of burning a new hour on a day when most of the audience is out. Y&R held its regular slot on Labor Day this year while ABC ran a General Hospital repeat, so the two networks don't always make the same call.
• Your local station. Council coverage, a weather wall, a syndicated special. Nothing about this shows up in national listings.

Sports and holidays are known weeks out. News and local swaps are not, which is why a schedule page that only lists holidays isn't much use on a Tuesday in March.

Where can I watch the episode I missed?

Paramount+ posts each episode the day after it airs, and CBS.com carries recent hours behind a TV provider login. Neither route gives you a live simulcast on the base plan.

If you're hunting a specific hour, use the CBS numbering. CBS files Monday, Sept. 14 as Season 53, Episode 238 and Tuesday as Episode 239. That is not the number you'll see quoted in most spoiler columns, which print production numbers in the 13,400s, and TVmaze uses a third scheme again. Three systems, one episode — the CBS one is what matches the Paramount+ library.

Does Y&R air on weekends?

No. It has been a weekday show for its whole run, and nothing airs Saturday or Sunday. A weekend "episode" you see listed is a marathon block or an encore run on a cable partner, not a new hour.

How do I tell an encore from a new episode?

The story is the giveaway, but there's a faster tell. New episodes carry the current season and a number one higher than yesterday's in CBS's guide; encores repeat an older one. If your on-screen guide shows a description you read weeks ago, it's a repeat.
