Who Is Jack Brennan on General Hospital? Explained

· General Hospital · Updated · By the Soap On Air desk

As of October 28, 2026.

Bottom line: Jack Brennan was the World Security Bureau agent who ran the bureau's Port Charles office, and he's dead. His body turned up in the Metro Court pool at the end of the Monday, Aug. 31 episode, and the Tuesday, Sept. 1 hour confirmed who it was. Chris L. McKenna played him from February 2025. Two months on, the cover-up is the live part of the story: Ava and Drew buried him, Nina took the blame, and on Tuesday, Oct. 27, the PCPD opened its own case with Ava's name on the file.

One odd detail for anyone checking the official site: ABC's General Hospital cast page still listed "Chris L. McKenna, Jack Brennan" as the 4th of 14 names on its first screen when we read it at 1 a.m. ET on Oct. 28. The page hasn't caught up with the pool.

Who plays Jack Brennan?

Chris L. McKenna. Soap Opera Network and Wikipedia both put his first GH airdate in February 2025, taking over from Charles Mesure. Wikipedia's character list has the exact day as Feb. 4, 2025.

His exit was reported in early August 2026, with the character to be killed off, and that's what aired. Soap Central's Sept. 1 piece on his departure describes the character as the WSB's station chief. We're sticking to the show and public reporting here, so nothing about what the actor does next.

What did Jack Brennan do on the show?

He was the bureau's man in Port Charles, which put him across the table from Sonny, Valentin and Carly at different points. His romance with Carly ended badly, in part because he brought her daughter Josslyn into the WSB; both Soap Central and Soap Opera Network make that point. By mid-2026 he'd moved on to Nina Reeves, Carly's longtime rival.

Nina nearly killed him before anyone else did. In May 2026 she accidentally dosed him with the same paralytic that had kept Drew locked in, and he spent weeks in the hospital before he recovered. Soaps.com's previews from that month cover the hospital stretch. That drug came back in October, when Lulu's article about the WSB and a locked-in drug named Jack as a second patient.

How did Jack Brennan die?

The show hasn't spelled out a cause, and neither will we. What aired is this: on Aug. 31, Ava sat with Jack in the Metro Court gardens over a drink. Soaps.com's Oct. 23 recap has her admitting to Drew she feared a waiter saw her slip a pill into it. That same night Charlotte and Danny went for a swim and found a body floating in the pool. Tuesday's episode showed the face.

Then came the burial. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, Ava and Drew dug a grave on the nature preserve beside the Quartermaine estate and put him in it. Outback, the dog Chase was minding, found the spot almost immediately and started digging, which is the beat our Sept. 4 recap picks up.

Why was Nina arrested for it?

Because Drew made sure of it. Soap Central's Sept. 3 recap and Soaps.com's Sept. 16 recap both show Drew remembering how he took Jack's wallet, found Nina's car by its registration, and planted it inside. His stated motive was Nina shoving him into the lake earlier in the year.

The rest moved in days. Carly pointed Agent Baines toward Nina on Sept. 11, after their public fight over Jack. On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Baines detained Nina over Jack's disappearance and possible murder, and the next day the WSB took custody once the wallet surfaced. Our Sept. 16 recap and Sept. 17 recap run through it.

Where does the investigation stand now?

Three things changed in the last week of October.

So the pressure has flipped. For 6 weeks the official theory was Nina. As of Oct. 27, a Port Charles detective is looking at the woman who was actually with him that night.

FAQ

Is Jack Brennan dead on General Hospital? Yes. His body was found Aug. 31 and identified Sept. 1, 2026. He was buried in secret, on the nature preserve, on Sept. 2.

Who killed Jack Brennan? The show hasn't said in so many words. Ava has told Drew she fears a waiter saw her slip a pill into his drink on Aug. 31, and Drew helped hide the body and framed Nina. Whether it was murder or something that went wrong is still the open question on screen.

Is Nina still a suspect? Officially, yes, but on Oct. 27 Agent Baines told her the bureau may have rushed, and the PCPD's new case points at Ava.
